Operation Santa Claus 2008 launched its opening ceremony on November 11 at Ocean Park to introduce this year's beneficiaries and to kick off the annual community-wide charity event.

At the ceremony,  officiating guests including the Wife of the Chief Executive, Selina TSANG, the Honorary Patron of the campaign, Director of Broadcasting Franklin WONG Wah-kay, SCMP Editor CK LAU, Ocean Park Chairman Allan ZEMAN, and Operation Santa Claus 2008 Ambassador Ivana WONG were invited to launch the campaign. Plus, Hong Kong's famous drummer Kumi Masunaga and "Drum Jam", Bradbury School Choir, and the Sky Fair Acrobats from Ocean Park staged a series of performances to deliver the message of love and care.

The event was also well supported by dignitaries including Consuls General or representatives of the Consulate General of the United States of America, Czech Republic and Colombia, Permanent Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development (Communications and Technology) Duncan Pescod, and representatives of corporate sponsors and beneficiaries.

香港電台第三台及南華早報合辦的大型慈善活動「愛心聖誕大行動2008」，於十一月十一日假海洋公園進行揭幕禮；透過一連串的精采表演，在歡笑鼓樂聲中，大會正式介紹本年度十三個受惠機構，而為期一個月的慈善活動亦隨後陸續展開。

當晚，應邀擔任主禮嘉賓的人士包括有：活動贊助人行政長官夫人曾鮑笑薇、廣播處長黃華麒、南華早報總編輯劉志權、海洋公園主席盛智文、商務及經濟發展局常任秘書長 (通訊及科技) 栢志高及是次活動大使王菀之。

會上，著名鼓手增永紅實及其樂隊「齊鼓樂」、英基學校協會旗下小學Bradbury School合唱團及海洋公園Sky Fair雜技團等亦助陣演出，合力宣揚愛與關懷的信息。

此外，出席支持活動的嘉賓還包括：駐港總領事或代表 (包括美國、捷克共和國、哥倫比亞等)、各大贊助機構代表及十三個受惠機構代表等等。
